CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan, has launched a new initiative that puts retired CareSource computers into the hands of community members. Instead of disposing of used computers, CareSource will recycle the computers and distribute them to community members in need through a partnership with Easterseals Crossroads, a nonprofit that has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for over 80 years. The first donation of computers from CareSource will consist of 100 computers that will be distributed through the Easterseals Crossroads initiative, INDATA Project.
“CareSource is dedicated to improving access to healthcare for our members and all Hoosiers,” said Steve Smitherman, CareSource Indiana president. “The donation of computers to those who need them most will not only improve their access to health care but will also provide opportunities for education and jobs.”
After computers are retired from use at CareSource, they will go through an internal process to ensure they are ready for a community member’s use. The computers will then go to Easterseals Crossroads, who already has the INDATA Project initiative in place that distributes computers to community members in need. Easterseals Crossroads currently has a waiting list of 60 individuals who are in need of computers.
“Easterseals Crossroads is excited to partner with CareSource to supply reutilized computer systems to people with disabilities,” said Wade Wingler, Easterseals Crossroads vice president. “Technology is often one of the keys to independence in the lives of those we serve. CareSource’s generosity is an important part of our work to reduce the digital divide for people with disabilities.”
