Adding an account picture to your computer user account is very normal. However, most people don’t realize that you can add a video as your user account sign-in ‘picture.’ In this tutorial, I will show you how to add a video to your user account avatar on Windows 10 computers. The process is straightforward. Just follow the steps to a T.
Use a Video as Your User Account Avatar
Whenever you sign in to your computer, the login screen has a circle where you add your profile picture or avatar. You can add a video in this place, but it can only be a few seconds long, and it should be in MP4 format. These videos can be anything, a boomerang of you, a clip of your favorite movie, a video of your favorite singer, etc.
Step-1: Go to the Start Menu and click on the Settings cog. (Shortcut Keys: Win + I)
Step-2: Click on Accounts.
Step-3: Select the Your info tab from the left side of the settings window.
Step-4: Under the Create your picture section, select Browse for one.
Step-5: A dialogue box will open. Look for the location of the video you want to set as your profile picture.
Step-6: I clicked on Videos because that’s where I keep the video clips. You will notice that you won’t see the video you are looking for, like in the image below. [It’s okay. Don’t freak out this is perfectly normal]
Step-7: Without closing this dialogue box, open File Explorer from your taskbar.
Step-8: Locate the video you want to set as your profile ‘picture’ in the File Explorer.
Step-9: Right-click on the video clip you want to use and select Rename.
Step-10: Copy the File’s name by highlighting it below and pressing the Ctrl + C keys on your keyboard.
Step-11: Now go to the dialogue box that was open in settings where you couldn’t locate the video.
Step-12: Paste the copied name in the File name bar by pressing the Ctrl + V keys on your keyboard, and you will be able to see the file.
Step-13: Select the mp4 file and click on Choose picture.
It may take a few seconds to apply the changes. You will be able to see the changes in the Your info section.
Restart your computer or go to your login screen to see the video clip on your user account screen.
Important note: Ensure that the clip you choose is not more than 5 to 6 seconds long. Also, ensure that the video format is MP4.
