The actress, whose films include Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit and the Marvel movies, dedicated the honour to those she had worked with over her glittering career.

In a video acceptance speech, Johansson also paid tribute to her fans for “riding the wave with me and supporting my career so I can continue to have the good fortune to pursue the job that is my passion”.

Saturday Night Live star Jost appeared during the speech and poured a bowl of slime over his wife, joking he had confused the MTV ceremony with the Nickelodeon awards, where winners are traditionally covered in the sticky substance.
