Infosec is a sector that is increasing in importance and the global cybersecurity industry expected to grow in value to $248bn by 2023. With that in mind, Smarttech247 is growing its team in Cork.
The managed security company said it is investing heavily in R&D in Ireland and its international sales offices and is working on new products for launch this year.
It plans to hire 30 more staff, with roles now available across SOC engineering, finance, sales, business analysis, marketing and HR. While the new roles will be based at its Cork office, the company is facilitating remote working in line with current public guidelines.
Founded by Ronan Murphy in 2008, Smarttech247 combines threat intelligence with managed detection and response to provide insights, threat detection, investigation and response services to its customers.
Last year the company launched two programmes aimed at expanding and diversifying the talent pool within the infosec industry. A specialist six-week course for women in cybersecurity was launched in August and a year-long placement opportunity for graduates was announced at the end of the year.
Speaking to Siliconrepublic.com earlier this year, Smarttech247 general manager Raluca Saceanu said the cybersecurity industry has “an image problem” when it comes to its lack of diversity.
“Men outnumber women in cybersecurity, which means that the industry has a wide pool of untapped talent as we face an increasingly sophisticated level of threat from our adversaries,” she said. “I think this is slowly changing and more companies as well as universities are tackling the issue.”
Announcing the new jobs today (16 February), Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Coveney, TD, said the Smarttech247 story is “a great example” of what ambition and talent can achieve.
“It’s been inspirational to see their international growth and achievements, thanks to hard work and determination at all levels in the company.”
Murphy said his team now has “an expert level of knowledge” of the complex and evolving threat landscape. “Our cutting-edge skills and dedication to protecting clients have allowed the company to earn its reputation as a trusted provider and market leader,” he said.
“We have exciting plans for 2021 that will allow us to innovate further in the infosec world for our customers and this recruitment drive is the first step.”
